June G Oxnard, CA. AA

Southern California AA Convention / SCAAC Opening Mtg. San Diego, CA 10/18–10/20/1991

June G. was a California AA speaker whose voice carried across decades of recovery rooms, from San Diego in 1991 to later recordings out of Los Angeles, Florida, and Oxnard.

She spoke at the Southern A.A. Opening Meeting in San Diego in October 1991, part of a speaker trail that places her in the kind of rooms where AA does not need decoration. It needs someone who can walk to the microphone, clear the fog, and remind the dying why the door is still open.

AA service literature also places June G. of California among the speakers connected to a 1990 Big Book milestone event, when the ten-millionth copy of the book was presented. A charming little number, ten million. Enough paper to bury a city. Enough truth to save one alcoholic at a time.

Later listings show June G. from Los Angeles speaking in Florida in 2003, and June G. from Oxnard speaking on the Twelfth Step in 2021. That gives her message a long shadow: San Diego, Florida, Oxnard — different rooms, different decades, same impossible little miracle.

One alcoholic stands up. Tells the truth. Hands it on.

And somewhere in the back of the room, someone who thought they were finished hears just enough to stay.
