Kimi Pennington was an AA speaker at the Desert AA Pow Wow Young People’s Meeting in Indian Wells, California, on June 20, 1992.

The public record around her is thin, which makes the tape itself more valuable. Not every AA speaker left behind a catalog trail, a circuit biography, or a neat little stack of searchable breadcrumbs. Some simply stood up, told the truth in a room that needed it, and disappeared back into the anonymous machinery that keeps the whole miracle running.

A Young People’s meeting is no small assignment. That room does not need decoration. It needs recognition. It needs someone who can speak to the alcoholic who still looks too young, too clever, too wounded, too wild, or too unfinished to believe the disease has already taken them seriously.

Kimmy Pennington belongs in the archive for that reason: a voice from the Desert Pow Wow, carrying the message into a young people’s room where time was not guaranteed, denial was still dressed attractively, and somebody needed to hear that AA was not only for later.

It was for now.
